27 Aug 2005: Thanks to GT's e-mail suggestion I have been able to find and contact Lt Helton who is now 85 years of age and living in San Antonio, TX. He said they were part of the 454th Bomber Group stationed in Italy and that they flew 25 missions over Germany without losing a plane. They were shot up pretty heavily several times but always made it back to base. He also said that his Co-Pilot Robert Meury was deceased but that last he knew Robert Martin (Armor Gunner) was living in California and Marvin Krueger (Nose Guneer) was in North Dakota.
Lt Helton said he was stationed in France after the War where he met and married a French girl and that this year they celebrated their 58th anniversary. He stayed in the Air Force after it split from the Army and later retired with over 10,000 flight hours.
He is curious to know of the fate of any others of the crew that may be found so please pass the info on.
26 Aug 2005: I'm not sure exactly when or where the photo was taken but my mother said it had to be late War maybe 1944. The exact writing on the label on the back of the photo says:

F/O John Feddersen (Navigator) holding mascot "Duffy"
Lt. Oscar Helton (Pilot)
Lt. Robert Meury (Co-Pilot)

Lt Helton was a very good friend of my mother's family but they lost touch with him after the War and she and her sister would love very much to find him. I hope some of your viewers may recognize him or some of the crew. Sam Lyons, Brunswick, GA.

What a surprise it was to see my first cousin Lt. Robert Meury. I only wish I knew more about his days in those B-17's. He never talked much about it.

My dad was in the 381st and flew 35 missions over Germany. He would also test fly repaired planes to see if they were flight worthy. I wish I could get more info on his time in the Air Force. His name was Jerome M. Wright. Thank you.

Great picture. . .thanks for sharing it. I thought for a moment that this was the Helton crew of the 305th B.G. that was lost over Schweinfurt! Glad to see that they were safe and sound!
