Identification needed for aircraft (including type) and personnel.
David Grant: "My Grandfather is the second from the right - Cletus V. Horton; I don't know why he is pictured here, cannot find him listed on your website. All I know was that he was an intelligence officer."
Webmaster: Consensus seems to be that it is a Lockheed B-34 (Ventura) variant. Except for Horton, the personnel appear to be British, and the guys on the ends may be non-flying personnel (see the galoshes) and the other guy has RAF style flying boots. The propellor decal on #1 engine indicates "Hamilton Standard", a US firm.
Finn Buch pointed ou that the aircraft in the background have RAF roundel markings - any guesses there?
One use of this type was as the RB-34 - for reconnaissance. Perhaps this is one of those? |
