Grafton Underwood Airfield was located near the town of the same name. It has largely returned to agricultural use, although some structures in the technical area remain (in private use) and some additional evidence of wartime construction can be seen in Grafton Wood. In addition to the memorial monument near the southwest end of the main runway, there is a memorial window in St. James Church (ask for the key at the Post Office). You can also wander thru the airifeld's "domestic area" in Grafton Wood. The town is little changed from its appearance in the 1940's, judging from pictures from that time. |
